Mikhail Kobyakov |
Mikhail Kobiakov, born in 1964, is a professional graphic artist from Minsk, Belarus, who has worked in art direction and as a book illustrator since 1984. Media: drawing, pen, ink, etching. He had one-men exhibitions in Belarus, publications in the CIS countries, in England, Germany and the Netherlands (magazines: Human Kind, Graphische Kunst, Arts Dialogue), took part in prestigious European exhibitions. Mikhail Kobiakov's drawings and prints embody his complex message achieved with his own form of mystical symbolism, an extensive and at the same very specific language. The artist himself seems to emerge from the Middle Ages bringing with him the recognizable images of that period, the epoch of symbolism, the epoch of contrasts. He believes that this brings a grotesque animation to his work where, devoid of their natural meaning, people and objects seem to live their own life, like original formulas of the universal language. The symbolism carries many levels of meaning, but at the same time always contains a specific concept: it may be a gentle hint or cynical laugh, a protest, a meditation. Secure reality is interlaced with the great mysteries of life. Though greatly inspired by the works of great masters, Mikhail Kobiakov always adopted his own unique attitude and his works are highly individual. He reserves the right to conceal - to stir the imagination and stimulates thoughts. He believes that his art must contain some mystery, some implication to be discovered. Most of his works possesses the opposites of statics and contemplation with dynamics and action. With the help of these contradictions the artist seems to carry his images to the point of absurdity but stops just on the point of their transformation into something formless and format. This is the main principle of Mikhail Kobiakov's work, the intercourse between an artist and his audience. Mikhail Kobiakov |
